My sister moved to Texas about 6 years ago with her husband who’s in the military. She didn’t know anyone there at the time but about 6 months ago I found out my job was being transferred to Dallas! I would have been really scared and upset about it but since Shelly lives in Frisco I was actually really excited. I had missed her so much and I couldn’t wait to get out there and live closer to she and my nieces and nephew. It’s been a long road trying to get settled into my house in Dallas – the week I moved in a tree fell on the roof! I used the repairs as an opportunity to do a lot of stuff to the place, though, and between going to www.electriccompaniesindallas.com to pick a new energy provider and working with three different roofers to get the slate roof perfect, I’m plum exhausted from all this house stuff! I thought when I moved here to Texas I’d be outside in the parks, enjoying the weather, seeing my sister all the time…I even thought I might finally get a dog! But I’ve been so overwhelmed the last few months with making everything right with my house and trying to get comfortable in my new role at work that I have barely had time to get my hair cut. I love it here so far, and it’s been really great to have Shelly so close by. The kids love seeing me and I just feel good knowing that if something happens – my car breaks down, I lose my job – I’ve got family nearby to lean on. It’s not the same as living in the same place as my parents but I was ready to get out and make a new life for myself anyway. We both grew up in Seattle so who would have thought we’d end up as a Texas-based family? My parents now only have to go to one place to visit us!
